IS OUR LEGACY

Founded in 1921, our championship 18-hole golf course is the cornerstone of Lakewood Country Club. We offer a rare opportunity to play an original A.W. Tillinghast-designed course—the only one in Ohio crafted by one of America’s foremost championship golf course architects. Tillinghast’s legacy includes some of the most renowned courses in the country, such as Winged Foot Golf Club (East and West), Bethpage Black, and Baltusrol Golf Club. As a founder of the PGA of America and an early supporter of the USGA Green Section, his influence on the game is undeniable.

Lakewood Country Club is currently undergoing a historic restoration led by acclaimed golf course architect and Tillinghast expert Keith Foster, in collaboration with Total Turf Golf Services, a premier golf course builder. This project aims to revitalize the course while preserving Tillinghast’s vision, ensuring Lakewood remains one of Ohio’s top championship golf destinations.

If there is one word to describe the course style, it would be “traditional”—a classic parkland-style design that provides challenges for low handicappers while remaining a fair test for everyday players. The course meanders around a property featuring lakes, undulating greens, and mild elevation changes, and it is known for having some of the best greens in the state.

As we celebrate our centennial, we have renewed our commitment to the course and to preserving Tillinghast’s vision for the future.

PRACTICE AREA

Our practice facility is arguably the best in Northern Ohio! In addition to Lakewood’s 18-hole golf course, our members have access to practice facilities that consist of two putting greens, an adult driving range with two large bent grass tees and five target greens, a junior range with beautifully manicured tees and shortened target greens, and an outstanding 2.5-acre short game practice area. The short game practice area was opened in 2008 and allows members and our PGA Professional Staff to practice and teach a variety of shots around the greens.

GOLF SHOP

The Golf Shop is the center of all golf activity, and our goal as a Professional Staff is to offer you and your guests the finest customer service, quality clothing, new equipment, and all of the latest accessories at competitive prices. We provide all this excellent service and recommendations to members and guests.

Each golf season, you will see the latest fashions and a bright new look in the Golf Shop. We carry all the top lines for golf equipment, including Titleist, Callaway, Ping, XXIO, Srixon, and TaylorMade, but we can also get equipment from other companies. Our pricing on clubs is highly competitive, and you usually won’t find pricing any lower than our Club-owned Golf Shop, even on the internet. Your clubs are very important to us, and if your clubs fit, you will undoubtedly enjoy your golf more. Our Professional Staff will be happy to take the time to ensure your equipment is fit specifically for you and your own game. We also want you to be able to demo clubs before your purchase, and we will have many demos for our members to try. The Professional Staff will stand behind everything our members and guests purchase. Hence, your support and patronage of the Golf Shop are vital to the total club experience here at Lakewood Country Club.
